  1. Put your prospect’s name in your headline. Everyone wants to see their name in “The Headlines”. This is sure to grab their attention and get them to read your ad or sales letter.
  2. “Use Quotes” around your title. The quotes create the perception that your title is testimonial and has credibility. And credibility, in turn, creates more trust, and this can significantly increase the response to your ad.
  3. Don’t make your headline “BIG”. Many advertisers believe that larger titles get better responses. Bigger is not always better. You want your headline to have a readable and believable size compared to the rest of your ad. A big title can reduce your credibility by looking “hypnotized”.
  4. Don’t end your headline with a period. This creates a pause in your reader’s mind and they may decide to move on to something else. People have been trained to stop at a time. But if you end your title with “!” exclamation point You’ll be happy with the ad and your readers will want to continue with your ad (it’s a good rule of thumb, but it’s not the law. There are many advanced techniques for producing great headlines, but one that I find simple and effective is to use the best benefit your product or service provides as your main headline, and then advertise “How To…” for it. For example, if your best feature as a web developer is getting your website up and running in 3 days, the benefits could be…”How To Attract New Business Around The World While You’re Sleeping Starts In 3 Days!”
  7. If you’re using the dollar figure “$” in your ads, use this tip: If you’re helping people save or earn an extra $2,500 with your product or service, attach a decimal point to the number: $2,500.00. What looks like more money, $2,500 or $2,500.00? Conversely, if you are stating a price for your product, enter as few “0” as possible in the price. For example, if your product costs $2,500, you don’t want to print, “$2,500”, or “$2,500.00”. You want to print something like $2,499. It looks less threatening.
  8. Combine a grabber with your title and you might get some awesome results! Grabbers are small gadgets and knick-knacks attached to your letter or report that catch your prospect’s attention such as: millions of dollars, real money, string, magnifying glass, pencils, fake checks, chewing gum, poker chips, etc. The key is to tie in your grabber with your offer in a smart way. Also, if you combine titles above and/or below your grabber, you will actually have advertising power for your ad.
  9. Make your headline newsworthy. “How To Get Your Tax Refund In 10 Days!” is a pretty good benefit-oriented title, but you could test out newsworthy approaches like … “Local Tax Planners Get Clients Over $1,000,000.00 In Tax Returns!”
  10. Use testimonials as your headline… Get the most detailed and specific testimonial you have and use it as your headline. For example, “I made an additional $32,000.00 In Six Weeks, and another $10,000.00 in Two Days!” is a prime example of a particular testimony. This makes it really interesting because it’s real, newsworthy, and I can attach a real name to it.
